The announcement wasn’t scheduled for a few more days — four according to the teaser site — but it looks like Alienware’s All Powerful gaming laptop has been set free anyway. So, does it live up to the clues? Pretty much… how does a pair of 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280M GPUs strike you? No Core i7 listed, instead we’re looking at a Core 2 Extreme quad-core CPU at the top end with up to 8GB of 1333MHz DDR3 memory, and 1TB of 7200-rpm disk or a 512GB SSD if you prefer. RAID 1 or RAID 0? Sure. Rounding things out is a nine-cell battery of unstated performance, FireWire, 4x USB, eSATA, ExpressCard, 802.11n WiFi, 8-in-1 media card reader, dual-layer Blu-ray, a 1920 x 1200 pixel edge-to-edge LCD, DisplayPort and HDMI-outs all wrapped up in a massive chassis weighing 11.68-pounds with a 15.98 x 12.65 x 2.11-inch footprint. It’s also packing a GeForce 9400M G1 GPU with HybridPower technology that allows you to scale the graphics back to conserve battery power. Prices start at $1,799 for a lot less than we mentioned above.

As a footnote to the details above, PCWorld also says that Alienware will use next week’s E3 show to update us on its 42.8-inch curved monitor we went hands-on with back in January of 2008.

The $1,099 Sony Vaio JS250J is a very impressive all-in-one desktop from the manufacturer. The desktop system boasts of the features that you will not find on any other desktop system in its category and price.

The Sony Vaio JS250J shares its looks with the JS100-series desktop systems. The system is equipped with all the basic design features than you will find on all-in-one desktop systems. The 20-inch display houses a Webcam on the top edge. The adjustable stand allows you to change the display orientation according to your comfort. Though the Sony Vaio JS256J doesn’t come with a slot-loading DVD burner but it boasts of a tray-based Blu-ray drive, which is located on the right side of the casing.

The Sony Vaio JS250J faces tough competition from Apple’s 20-inch iMac, which is priced at $1,199. Both the systems come with 20-inch display, which has native resolution of 1,680×1,050 pixels. The Sony is powered by 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo E5200 processor; while the Apple is powered by faster 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU.

The Sony JS250J is equipped with 4GB of 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM, while Apple iMac sports 2GB of 1,066MHz DDR3 SDRAM. The Sony uses 256MB (shared) Nvidia GeForce 9300M GS integrated graphics chip, while the Apple comes with 256MB (shared) Nvidia GeForce 9400M graphics card. The Sony is equipped with larger 500GB, 7,200rpm hard drive as compared to 320GB, 7,200rpm hard drive of Apple. Both the systems come with Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11n wireless as connectivity options but the Apple iMac also offers Bluetooth connectivity. With the Sony, you can choose from Blu-ray drive or dual layer DVD burner but the Apple doesn’t offer Blu-ray drive.

The desktop system also offers comprehensive collection of ports and connectors. The Sony JS250J comes with USB 2.0 ports, standard headphone/microphone jacks, FireWire port, analog out jacks, and Ethernet jack along with optical S/PDIF output.

Sony JS250J also comes with a mouse and a wired chicklet keyboard. Though the mouse fails to impress, the chicklet keyboard is pretty impressive.
