Art Lebedev doesn’t have a fantastic track record when it comes to timing, but we’ll be damned if those boutique devices don’t look hot when they hit the scene — just check out this first render of the Optimus Popularis keyboard, which the studio informs us will still (despite years in the making) cost less than $1000 when it eventually arrives. We’re loving the new chiclet keys with typewriter spacing, even as we mourn the loss of a dedicated numpad in favor of industrial design — though Art Leb says a press of the FN key will remedy that issue. When every button has a screen built into it, you can put that ten-key wherever you want, right?

I doubt it, but it still seems like a decent tablet.

The device in question is the Asus Eee Pad EP121, a tablet computer that, according to the company, is “a full-featured slate computer that serves as a multimedia player, e-reader, compact PC and Internet device.” It was unveiled at Computex 2010 in Taipei and has a 12-inch touchscreen, Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, and an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Asus has said that the device is able to run many applications at once, which the iPad cannot do.

Asus also revealed another new device, the Asus Eee 101TC, which is a thinner and lighter device that runs Windows 7 Embedded. Asus’ decision to use Windows on its tablets is probably going to help Microsoft maintain a presence in the still-young tablet market. HP was also going to use Windows in its tablet until its acquisition of Palm.

After realizing the fact that Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 turned into a total failure because of the appearance of the models equipped with better operating system, Motorola seems to be planning ways to escape this.

The best option is to make some updates which will make Motorola phones more updated. Thus no surprise that Motorola only recently updated two of its most popular and demanded models- Motorola Droid and Motorola Milestone with the latest version of Android series – Android 2.1.

Anyways having such two devices is not sufficient enough. The thing is that the upcoming Symbian^3 and WinMo 7 operating system-based devices are going to turn into direct competitors for the Android-based ones. So the need for the more relevant and fast reaction is necessary. As for now Motorola plans to make updates also for some other devices.

The list includes top 5 smartphones offered by the company: Backflip, Cliq, Cliq XT, Devour and Dext. While being quite a coordinated company Motorola managed to mention different dates for different parts of the planet- closer dates for the local customers and a little more time to wait for the Southern Asia.

Except of the efforts to make some update company must keep in mind that if no new models will be released by the end of the second quarter of 2010 this will definitely influence on the share of Motorola both in local and international market. Let’s just remind that as for now Motorola is considered to be amongst the top 3 smartphone producers of the local market and among top 10 for the markets abroad.

Oh the carnage! A prototype ASUS Eee Keyboard made a wrong turn at Albuquerque only to end up gutted in a French orgy of gadget terrorism. Nine screw removals later and we see the stand-alone PC with its 5-inch, 800 x 480 pixel touchscreen splayed, 1.66GHz Atom N280 processor and all. Unfortunately, easy access does not mean easy upgrades as the RAM is soldered to the motherboard. Other notables are the Silicon Image HDMI transmitter that allows 1080p playback over HDMI and 1880mAh battery that should provide an estimated 1 hour and 40 minutes of use before hitting the mains. Blogeenet also has a pretty thorough video overview of ASUS’ customized UI running on XP; after the break, son.

Unfortunately, they have pulled down the story but the whole world knows about it by now. It looks like crescent moon when fully open and can reduce to half its size when retracted. The mouse will be available in red or black for a list price of $60.

Hey, Microsoft — you’re pretty proud of that Arc Mouse, yeah? If so, you should probably alert your legal team to the image shown above, as it seems one BOL-LINK has decided it best to just copy the arching input peripheral you helped pioneer and showcase it to onlookers in Taiwan. Then again, these guys did use a slightly different color scheme…

If you didn’t believe the Tegra hype — 25 days audio, 10 hours of 1080p video on single charge — already then pull up a stool, son, NVIDIA wants to tell your a story. TechVideoBlog sat down with Gordon Grigor, NVIDIA’s Director of Mobile Software to see Tegra’s little Atom smasher in action. So sit back while Gordon smoothly streams a 720p MSN HD trailer off the web (over WiFi) then switches over to Firefox to take Flash for a spin at full-screen. Gordon also clarifies earlier confusion over Tegra’s ability to handle HD video; see, the Tegra 600 can do H.264 video at 720p while the Tegra 650 can decode 1080p. Gordon also gives some more insight into memory configurations. It seems that the OS (either Android or Windows CE in single or dual-boot configurations) will be embedded with minimal on-board storage like those early Eee PCs. RAM will also be limited to about 512MB on base units going as low as 256MB and as high as 1GB in future (unannounced) devices. A 512MB model limits Firefox to about 3-4 opened tabs at a time. All of this is meant to keep prices down below $200 (or less when subsidized by carriers). Also of note is how the Tegra’s GPU assists in rendering pixels anytime they appear on the display. In other words fonts, Firefox pages, scrolling, and of course video playback all benefit from an extra boost by the GPU. Check the video after the break to hear Gordon make some not so subtle jabs at Intel’s relatively power-hungry Atom processor.
